My name is Alyssa Derrick.
I’m a Caribbean girl who LOVES soca music, is ‘corny’ as eva (you’ll see) and is determined to make the most of what life has to offer. Born and raised in Antigua and Barbuda (woot woot!), I am exceptionally proud to be from the Caribbean (You can look it up if you’ve never heard of it – It’s BEAUtiful!).
I gained opportunities to experience different countries and cultures from a young age and was even more fortunate to go to University in North America. This is where my want to learn more about ‘the world’ developed. Seeing my island on a map, seeing where I came from in comparison to where I was studying helped put things into perspective for me.
It taught me that this world is HUGE!
There’s so much going on and only so much we are exposed to living our daily lives, our ‘9-5’.
So, here’s to exploring the unknown. Getting up and learning about other places in the world. It is there to be explored (don’t ya think?).
To my Caribbean people, this is to show ourselves that we can travel to more places in the world than NYC.
To everyone else, this is the world through my eyes – through my culture.
To Alyssa, keep doing what you’re doing. You’ll be alright.
This is my take, my view, my Caribbean perspective on the world
Yours truly,
Global Gyal.
