It feels fake, sometimes.

A country that has beauty but is also ‘developed’.

It’s like, you shouldn’t be able to have both.

There shouldn’t be ‘beauty and brains’, when it comes to a country.

Weird thought right?

But, hear me out.

How did a lot of the developed countries get the way they are?

They took.

They took resources, materials, people from “Underdeveloped” countries to build up their own.

However, even though they took a lot, they couldn’t physically ‘walk way’ (translation: walk away) with the land itself. They couldn’t take countless beaches, flowing rivers or forever lush green forests, pack them up on a ship and take them back to their home country (even though they probably tried).

So, go ahead. Be developed.

Have your fancy lifestyle with tall buildings and proper functioning water, and electricity and high education and low poverty.

But suffer. Suffer from not having a natural beauty that no matter the circumstance, is SO beautiful, it will make you stop and think, if even for a moment, that wow, this is absolutely stunning.

A beauty that makes you makes you say “Look at God/Allah/Buddah/ or who so ever’s creation”.

But, you can’t have both. You’re not allowed.

You shouldn’t be able to have that escape if you’ve gotten to ‘development’. You should suffer from the congestion and sights that the tall buildings have left you with. And come to our countries to truly see and feel and experience what it’s like seeing and living in a beautiful land.

That way, you’ll always be envious. And you’ll only truly know an escape, when you’re in our midst.

But New Zealand, though developed, doesn’t fall under this category of countries.

It “hit me for 6” with that one for sure (translation: “It baffled me/ definitely left me beyond words). ‘Cause, the country wasn’t the colonizer, it was colonized.

Its history and fate played out much different than many other countries in the world (#majoroversimplification). But with that, it’s managed to come out on top in so many ways.

So in this case New Zealand, you’re thee exception to my thoughts.

Because your beauty is extraordinary, nothing words can truly describe (as seen above). But, you have great health care too 🤷🏽‍♀️.

So, tek win jack.

Tek win.

(Translation: “You win this time. You win.”)

Yours truly,

Global Gyal

What is desirable is a balance. A balance between development, and preserving green natural spaces from exploitation. I think zoning/identifying as national parks etc takes care of that.

I definitely agree with this. Balance is key and I believe New Zealand has struck a great balance with their country. And it’s definitely something we could all learn from 🙂
