As I mentioned in part one of this post, I’ve been feeling ‘meh’ as I wondered if I’d done enough in my week and a half of being in New Zealand.
Another couple of meh reasons are:
- I miss but don’t miss my family quite just yet. Lord knows the time will come when I will. I’ve been away from them before but being in this space it’s like I can tell something’s different – I don’t know if to cough it up to being out of their presence or not 🤷🏾♀️.
- Do I really have a purpose? I’m being introduced to a lot of other Caribbean persons who’ve come here to study. What’s my answer to the question “So why are you here?” Them: My masters degree, Alyssa: Galavant 🙂 – not quite as ambitious huh?
3. Am I setting out to do what I intended to do? I have a bus ticket to travel the country sure, but I feel like I’m in a ‘lull’ almost at the moment.
However, here are some crucial things I needed to remember:
- You’re here for a YEAR. Yes, one is to seize the day and opportunities – but ya have time jack.
2. Seizing the day is one thing – giving your pocket a seizure is another. Dis likkle savings ya have haffu last you in this whole country for a year. Don’t get caught up now.
3. You can go go go but you also need to recharge. With your personality, being out of your comfort zone at all times (by being in a completely new country) takes up more energy than you’re used to. You need that extra time to relax and ketch yourself as best as you can – so tek um and hush.
4. You’ll be on a bus with complete strangers, daily, in a new place, daily, for the next 3 weeks – wah more excitement ya cyan want?
To you.
From you.
