Here we are folks!

About 3 months into my journey in New Zealand – where am I and what have I done?

Let’s recap:

  1. I landed in Auckland, NZ in February and got my bearings.
  2. I went on a 23 day bus tour all around New Zealand (you can read about it here).
  3. I returned to home base – Auckland city by March.

So, what’s next on my agenda?

House sitting!! In Christchurch!!

Now, what is this you may ask? What is this nonesense? She didn’t go ova dere to travel? To work? How is she doing all of this?

To break it down for ya, here were my goals for living in NZ:

  1. To travel. To travel and explore and see all that NZ has to offer.
  2. To have time. Time to travel, to do what I want, when I want.
  3. To be open to new opportunities. Say yes to the new stuff.
  4. To survive. Cya go all da way on da odda side of da world to suffer when I could be home.

When I returned to Auckland from my bus tour, the opportunity presented itself for me to stay in a house, free of cost, while the family that lives there traveled overseas for a month. I got a house, a car and a cat. Sounds legit to me!

At the same time, I wasn’t sure what city I was officially going to settle down in. So, I took it as an opportunity to feel it out and see if Christchurch was callin meh!

Was the house in a different city? – Yes.

Did I know these people? – Yes (they were family friends).

Would I mind being in the house all by myself? – Not one bit.

Did I know anyone in the new city? – Yes and No.

Why would you do this? – Why not?

I hung out in Auckland for about 3-4 weeks then packed my georgie bungle (Caribbean version of ‘stuff’ or ‘things’) and flew back out to Christchurch (about 1.5hrs via plane) in April to house sit. (N.B Once bought far enough in advance, a plane ticket within NZ could run you around $100NZD)

My adventures in Christchurch were quiet but adventures nonetheless (much like the city). Click here for a recap of my time in the area.

Christchurch here we come!
